Mildred Simmons Obituary

God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were harder to climb. He gently closed your eyes and whispered, `Peace be thine".

Mildred Lucille Simmons, the daughter of Mr. Zackie and Mrs. Evelyn Knox was born on January 3, I936 in the Burgess Community of Horry County. Mildred peacefully departed this life on Monday, April I, 2024.

She attended the public schools of Horry County and graduated from Whittemore High School in Conway, South Carolina. Mildred joined Greater Gordon Chapel AME Church in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina at an early age. She was joined in holy matrimony on November 5, I984 to the late Albennett "Billy" Simmons, and this union was blessed with eight "beautiful children" to continually cherish her memory. She worked at the Channel Marker Restaurant in Murrells Inlet for many years until her retirement. Mildred had a great love of basketball, her team being the Golden State Warriors; always watching Seth Curry play. She loved to cook and made the best macaroni that everyone just loved! Until her health declined, she enjoyed walking, playing cards, and enjoying her family. She was a loving, caring person, and the Matriarch of her family.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Zackie and Evelyn Knox along with five brothers, Mack Herman Knox, Dennis Knox, James Carolina, Howard Knox, Marion Franklin Knox and one sister, Frances Livingston; three sisters-in-law, Eula M. Whittingham, Mary Knox, and Maude Knox; one brother-in-law, Leroy Williams; two adorable grandchildren, Dentrell Palmer and Dawnyelle Palmer.

Her life and legacy will be remembered by her sons, Demetrius Palmer of Columbia, South Carolina, Dennis (Beverly) Palmer of Burgess, South Carolina, Mervin (Patricia) Palmer of Columbia, South Carolina, Andre Palmer of Severn, Maryland, Elder Henry (Lisa) Palmer of Montgomery, Alabama and Edsel Lovette "Love" Palmer of Burgess, South Carolina; her daughters Alzata Alston of Burgess, South Carolina and Jacqueline Palmer of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two brothers, Roger (Flornell) Knox of Conyers, Georgia and Lawrence Knox of Burgess, South Carolina; three sisters, Mary Drunell Smalls, and Blondell Williams both of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and Rev. Lena Carr of Jamaica Queens, New York; one brother-in-law, Ralph (Vivian) Simmons of Burgess, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Rosa Bell (Jimmy) Gore of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Isabelle Knox of Burgess, South Carolina and Mary Jane (Gloris) Taylor of Arizona. The most precious memories will be remembered by I8 grandchildren, I4 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson; a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
