MR. EUGENE “KANDI” VINCENT THOMAS, {73} was born July 31, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY at Kings County Hospital. He was a West Indies native. 

Eugene served his country in the United States Army in the 1960’s  and was a Vietnam Veteran. He then moved to Bucksport, SC in 1976, and attended and graduated from Horry Georgetown Technical College and later moved to Columbia, SC. He then began working at Hinds Electric Co. Inc. of West Columbia, SC as an Electrical Engineer Supervisor and married Myrtice A. Lewis.

“Kandi” as he was affectionately known departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at MUSC in Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

He leaves to mourn his passing one {1} daughter, Nysha Lewis of Columbia, SC; one {1} son, Donnell Lewis Sr. {Sarah} of Newport News, VA; seven grandchildren, Nigel Lewis of Davenport, FL, Desire’e {Damone} Sherman of Columbia, SC, De’Onte Lewis of Columbia, SC, Donnell Lewis, Jr. Baltimore, MD, Sarai’ Jeffery-Lewis of Conway, SC, Myrtice T.  and Emmanuel Lewis both of Newport News, VA; two {2} great-grandchildren, Damir and Delani Sherman both of Columbia, SC; two {2} brothers-in-law, Kenneth Lewis of Lawrenceville, GA and Kevin Lewis of Conway, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, extended children, grandchildren and two very special families, the Lewis and McCray and a special friend, Lee Muller, Jr.

Memorial Services will be held 2:oo PM Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Ocean View Funeral Home Conway Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home Conway Chapel. 



  • I extend my heartfelt condolences to Nyshia Lewis and family. I regret not being there for but please I’m with you in body and spirit. This is a time when words bring little comfort bit the power of the almighty God will cast an abundance of strength in your life. We know it is through our faith in the Lord that we will endure any pain or earthly challenge we face. God bless you and you will always remain on my thoughts and prayers.
