Veronica Antonia Vega was born April 12, 1984 to parents Keith Antonio and Teresa Marie Gowins in Wyandanch, NY. She was the oldest of eight siblings. Veronica graduated from Bay Shore High School in 2002.

Veronica loved to travel and was not afraid to venture alone. She also loved the beach. Because of this, she’d been to every state on the east coast south of New York.  This included three years in West Palm Beach, where she studied to become and worked as a paralegal. She also spent a little time in San Jose, Costa Rica. Eventually, her adventurous spirit led her abroad where she spent four years in Italy. While there she learned to speak fluent Italian, did some modeling and taught English as a second language. She returned home in 2011, and in October 2013, joined the U.S. Army, ready for another adventure. Veronica completed her basic training at Ft. Jackson in Columbia, SC, and was trained as a Helicopter Engine Mechanic at Ft. Eustis in Virginia.  There she learned how to work on Blackhawks, Apaches, and Chinooks.  Her first duty station was Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX, where she met and married Javier Vega, who had recently returned from several years of deployment. After some time she volunteered for an office position. There Veronica’s previous experience as a paralegal came in handy. She became the go-to person when it came to completing paperwork and legal documents and was loved and well-respected by her peers.

Veronica departed from this life on August 9, 2017. She was preceded in death by her mother, Teresa Marie Gowins, and grandmother, Dorothy Moore. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Javier Vega, her father, Keith Antonio Gowins, siblings Tierra, Tamara, Keith Antonio, Jessica, Tizzeri, Malakai, and Jailiah, her grandmother Hilda Gowins, and a host of aunts, uncles cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
