REV. CHRISTOPHER LEGGETTE FORD

REV. CHRISTOPHER LEGGETTE FORD, {44} was born January 07, 1973 at Loris Hospital to William Ford, Sr. and the late Marion Davis-Ford. “CHRIS,”as he was known by everyone, departed this earth on Thursday, November 30, 2017 in McLeod Loris Medical Center after an exhausting battle. God in His infinite wisdom selected a brave soldier from His garden of special servants to enter into his heavenly portals and dwell with Him. Chris attended Horry County Public Schools where he was a graduate of Green Sea Floyds High School class of 1992. He then furthered his passion at Fayetteville Technical Community College with the studying of Mortuary Science. Chris, while in attendance of college, became a member of Sigma Phi Sigma Mortuary Fraternity.  At completion of his studies, Chris returned to the Bayboro Community and proved his career in Mortuary Science by working with United Funeral Home of Loris, SC for seventeen {17} years. During these years, Chris gained many mentors that assisted with grasing his knowledge and love for the business and serving the Lord. On Sunday, January 20, 2008, Chris delivered his trial sermon at his home church, Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he had attended since he was a young boy. Luke 4: 18-19 was one of the scriptures Chris used to describe his calling; “The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” On this day, the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church was with a crowd from door to door and window to window. This turnout was from all the professional and personal relationships Chris had built over the years. This day was also the day that it was made apparent that Chris had heard his call and followed with faith, God’s command.  Chris was ordained as a minister at the age of thirty~seven {37}. Chris was the middle child born to William and Marion L. Ford, Sr. He was the brother of William Ford, Jr. {Sheri} of Socastee, SC and Travers N. Ford {Brandy} of Conway, SC. He leaves one {1} nephew: Mason Ford and three {3} nieces: Jada, Brayla and Trinity Ford, whom he loved dearly. Chris also leaves one {1} God-sister: Monique Graham of Spartanburg, SC; a special friend and brother: Kendrick Moody of the Cedar Branch Community; a special mother: Mrs. Angie Moody of the Bayboro Community and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends. Chris was born with a joyful spirit and throughout his life, he never met a stranger. Chris was a district leader for the Kingston Lake Young People Association, a member of the New Zion Lodge #355 and Mary Star Lodge #242 of Bayboro, SC. These memberships built character and introduced Chris to the life he led. Chris ministered to anyone and everyone regardless of creed or color. Chris was not only a pulpit minister and did not just spread the word on Sundays. Chris was the type of person that could draw a crowd on a street corner any day of the week. He never held his tongue or deviated from his beliefs regardless of the receiver. Chris provided to his family and community a caring and gentle soul who was honest, kind and true. Chris loved people, loved life and most of all, he loved the Lord. His kind soul and giving spirit will inspire others for many years to come.
