MS. ALBERTHA “BERT” MYERS.~MAZYCK, {63}is the last of nine children born on September 3, 1953 to the late Dan Myers Sr. and Mary P. Myers. Albertha, affectionately called “Bert” by most of her immediate family and very close friends was the epitome of a caring, service-to-the-community, oriented person of unusual tenacity and loyalty, not only by her ideals, but also to the people she chose to represents. “ALBERTHA” attended Whittemore High School in her early years of secondary education before attaining her high school diploma from Socastee High School graduating class of 1971. Shortly after graduating from high school, she married the late Johnny Alexander Mazyck. She then pursued an associate degree in accounting at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. She worked on numerous jobs with the latter being employed with Horry Electric Cooperation, Inc. for twenty~six {26} years. “ALBERTHA’S mission was nurtured in Saint James United Methodist Church in the Burgess Community of Myrtle Beach, SC, where her grandfather once preached. There she learned the truths of scripture and knew that those truths had to be lived out and shared with others. She was very devoted and had a deep passion for her church and faith from childhood to adulthood over the years. She served in various auxiliaries and in many capacities from being past Finance Chairperson, Membership Secretary, Audit Committee Chairperson and Lay Leadership Committee Member to being the Church Secretary, Chairperson of Outreach, Vice-Chair Usher Board, Secretary of the Kitchen Aides, Assistant Sunday School Adult Teacher, Communications Coordinator and as a member of the Emergency Assistant Committee. She also served on the District Superintendent Committee, was the Chair of the Women’s Day Committee, and was a Member of the Senior Choir & Chair of the Staff Parrish Relations Committee of the Brookgreen Charge United Methodist Churches. In the community, “BERT” was a lifetime member of the Burgess Organization for the Advancement of Young People, Inc. since its existence. She loved her community and enjoyed being labeled as one of its activists. She served as Secretary of the BOAYP, Inc., and was an active Board member of the Greater Burgess Community Association. She was an active member of the WIRE group that participated and helping the needy of Horry County through her employment. She served on the Planning Commission of Horry County, Highway 707 Relay Project. She helped form the Concerned Citizens of Burgess Group, who traveled from meeting to meeting in many areas throughout the county to speak out and share concerns of certain worthwhile causes that could better the Burgess Community. She also served on the Horry County Council on Aging. She participated and contributed to various organizations throughout the county to raise funds to assist the unfortunate in times of despair and need and also raise awareness to many important causes. Whenever there was a need or concern in the community, “ALBERTHA” was ready and willing to serve and take a stand for what she believed was right. She went beyond the call of duty, but by working together and believing, she never doubted that she would able to reach the outside world and that her outspokenness would make a difference to great historic Burgess Community. With her courage, hope, and inspiration combined with deep conviction, “BERT” always believed that, “If you do it right, God will bless it right. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” “ALBERTHA” was given her angel wings on Friday, August 4th, 2017. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Aaron Myers and her husband, Johnny Alexander Mazyck. Fond memories of her shall be eternally cherished by her loving and devoted children: Aaron Mazyck, Maurice Mazyck {Lekkiah}, Terrell Mazyck {Kimberly},Spechelle Mazyck, and Donovan Mazyck. “BERT” also leaves behind two {2} sisters, Ceil Cowan and Shirley Wiggins; five {5} brothers, Richard Myers, Dan Myers Jr. {Mary Lou}, George Myers, Jimmy Myers {Teri sat} and David Myers {Susan}; seven {7} sister’s in-laws, Mattie Alston {Robert}, Rebecca Brown, Jackie Mazyck, Mary Jane Holmes, Isodora Singleton {John Jr.}, Theresa Deas {Mack}, and Joanne Gary; three {3} brother in-laws, Benjamin Mazyck {Loretta}, Isacc Mazyck {Yvonne}, and Jack Mazyck {Julia}; three {3} aunts, Rosa B. Watson, Naomi Shine, and Dorothy Bryant; six {6} grandchildren, Montez Wilson, Aaron Mazyck Jr., Cameron Mazyck, Lailyah Mazyck, Trinity Mazyck, Tristin Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held 6:00 ~ 8:00 PM Monday, August 07, 2017 at St. James United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 08, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church, 2901 Fantasy Way, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Williams Memorial Chapel.
