MRS. MAYBELL JOHNSON~GAGUM~WEATHERS, {97} daughter of the late Deacon Freddie Johnson and Mrs. Emma Wilson~Johnson was born on April 02, 1918 in the “Johnson Settlement of Conway, SC. “MAYBELL” departed this life on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Conway Medical Center. She attended school in Horry County. “MAYBELL” married the late Robert Gagum and later the late Percy Weathers. She held many jobs in her lifetime as a cook, a farmer and a caregiver. “GRANNY” as she was affectionately called was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. As the oldest member of the church, she held the honor of being the “Mother of the Church.” “GRANNY” was best known for her unique skill of thriftiness. She knew how to take nothing and make something out of it. “GRANNY” had a great deal of pride in having things in order. Her yard was always immaculate. She had a love for her chickens and they brought so much joy to her. She loved her frequent trips to the IGA because this actually was social time. “GRANNY” had a great sense of humor and you were always going to have a good laugh when you were in her presence. She was an outstanding historian. “GRANNY” had the best vegetables and she always shared with anyone who wanted some. She loved God and she surely loved people. Her children Wendell Gagum, Odell Gagum, Robert Gagum, Rudell Bennett, and Emma Gagum and grandson Bobby Hill Jr. preceded her in death. “MAYBELL” leaves to cherish precious memories a daughter, Adeline Gagum~Holmes {John}; a grandson reared in the home, Joe Gagum (Kathy); other grandchildren whom she shared in their rearing, Karen H. Frinks, Lennie Hill, Otis Hill, and Rev. Steven Hill; two {2} great~grands of the home, Amber Gagum and Sierra Gagum {her exceptional caregiver}; seven {7} grandchildren, Gwen Spain, Barbara Spain, Odell Gagum, James O’Neal Gagum, Sharon Gagum, Rosemary Booth, and Jennifer Ford; fifteen {15} great~grands, Latoria Bellamy, Garren Spain, Joe Gagum Jr., Shyhetta Bellamy, Latosha Hill, Darren Rogers, Kenisha Frinks, Courtney Hill, Bria Hill, Steven Hill Jr., Semaj Gagum, Larunice Gagum, Elizabeth Montana, Jaliyah Ford, JaSiaha Ford; six {6} great~great~grands, Davion Rogers, Damoni Rogers, Essence Wedgeworth, Cameron Gagum, Jordan Gagum, Jerimiha Gagum; two {2} grand~in~laws, Davena Hill and Shanise Gagum; two {2} stepchildren, Mary Colbert and Betty Sue Wallace. In addition to her family she shared special friendships with Karen Long who rarely missed a week checking on Granny. Thomas and Carolyn Johnson “good neighbors”; Don Johnson though many miles away kept in touch; Jeanette Johnson; Bernice Johnson and Catherine Benning who always remembered Granny’s birthday and each Christmas with Taylor’s Pride, Juicy Fruit Gum and something special; special Chicora neighbor, Bruce Carter; her last caretaker, Cassaundra Hemingway; numerous nephews, nieces and other family and friends. Visitation will be held 6:00 ~ 8:00 PM Monday, March 21, 2016 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Hwy #905 Conway, SC. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LLC.
