MR. WILLIE E. YORK

MR. WILLIE EARL YORK, (70) better known to many as “Tommy” was born on April 08, 1944 to the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Allean Moore York of Greeleyville, SC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Deacon Johnny B. York. Tommy lived in South Carolina during his youth and attended the public schools of Clarendon County. Having been raised in a Christian setting, Tommy professed Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Greeleyville, SC where he was a faithful member. After relocating to Troy, NY Tommy later moved his membership to Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served in many capacities in the life of the church. Tommy was also known to the members as Assistant Pastor by Rev. Charles Thomas. Tommy met and married Ms. Earlene Holmes in 1970. They were blessed with two (2) children. Tommy worked for the Ford Motor Company in Troy, NY for many years and later transferred to Michigan by the same company. Tommy always kept God first and foremost in his life. He was dedicated to God, so he joined the Second Street Baptist Church in Michigan, again serving in many capacities in the life of the church. Upon retirement with thirty-one (31) years of service from Ford Motor Company, he and his family moved permanently to Myrtle Beach (Burgess), South Carolina and joined Saint James United Methodist Church. Tommy was a member of many organizations and was willing to do thus sayeth the Lord. He served as Church Trustee, member and Vice President of the Senior Choir, served as Chair of the Finance Committee. He was an Assistant Class Leader, Adult Sunday School Teacher and Charge Trustee. He was one of the designated drivers for the Van Ministry, a member of the United Methodist Men and lastly, served as Chairman of the Administrative Council of the Saint James United Methodist Church. He was a prayer warrior. His life was a testimony to all who knew him through his dedication to God. He was encouraging, dedicated, outspoken and faithful. Tommy was well known and liked in the Burgess Community as well as surrounding areas and earned the title “Mayor of Burgess.” He served not only his church with dedication, but also to his community. He served as Board Member on the Horry County Council on Aging for over ten (10) years and served on the Burgess Community Center Board. He worked side by side with his wife, Mrs. Eula and the Seniors helping wherever he was needed at the Burgess Community Center. He strongly believed in hard work and loved helping others. Being bored, he became self-employed doing part-time Bush-Hogging. He left this world doing something he loved to do, bush-hogging for others on Monday, August 18, 2014. Tommy never met anyone that was not touched by his laughter and love. Fond memories of him shall eternally be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Earlene of forty-four (44) years; his son, Darrell York of Myrtle Beach, SC; his daughter, Tanisha York of Orlando, FL; one (1) grandson, Stephon Frye of Orlando, FL; one (1) godson, Will Turmon of Columbia, SC; three (3) sisters, Dorothy June of Troy, NY, Thelma L. York of Greeleyville, SC and Virginia Canty of Lane, SC; one (1) brother, Samuel (Linda) Capers of Lane, SC; one (1) special uncle, Henry Brown of Myrtle Beach, SC; one (1) grand-uncle Isaiah (Rose) Frierson of Troy, NY; four (4) sisters-in-law, Mary York of Troy, NY, Doris (William) Turmon of Columbia, SC Caronlin (Maxie) of Burgess, SC and Miriam (James) Butler of Myrtle Beach, SC; two (2) brothers-in-law, Carlton (Whilhelmia) Holmes of Myrtle Beach, SC and Bonnie (Jackie) Holmes of Myrtle Beach, SC; three (3) nephews he helped raise, Willie C. June of Troy, NY, James L. June of Troy, NY and Retired Sergeant 1st Class Christopher A. Thornton of Fayetteville, NC; four (4) adopted sisters, Clara Ford, Mary Lou Meyers, Carolyn Surrette and Eula Winningham all of Myrtle Beach, SC and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Ocean View Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, August 22, 2014 at St. James United Methodist Church. Internment will follow at Heaven’s Gate Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LLC.
