MR. HENRY BENJAMIN CRAIG

MR. HENRY BENJAMIN CRAIG, {81} was born on April 25, 1935 in Lancaster, SC to Bennie Lee and Clorena Craig. On Saturday, August 13, 2016 God chose one of His angels to depart from us here on earth. “Mr. Craig” was called to his eternal home while at Myrtle Beach Estates Assisted Living. At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined Bethel Presbyterian Church in Union County, NC. “Henry” attended the schools of Lancaster, SC. After graduating high school, he joined The United States Air Force 1957 ~ 1963 after which, he then joined The United States Navy Reserve where he served his Country until 1990. He retired from The United States Navy Reserve after serving thirty~one {31} years of loyal and dedicated service. He received the honor of Chief Petty Officer of The United States Navy Reserve. While serving in The United States Reserve, he was employed with The New York City Transit Authority. “Henry” was a very loyal and dedicated US Navy Reserse Construction Mechanic, which was one of the multiple jobs he held. He achieved many awards of recognition including the Award for Twenty~eight {28} Years and Over for Appreciation of Loyal Service to New York City Transit Authority. “Henry” met his sweetheart Delores Johnson during his tenure with the New York City Transit Authority. After his second {2nd} retirement, they relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC. They visited many churches, and their former Pastor in New York advised them to join a Progressive National Baptist Church. Being the Christian ~ hearted couple they are, they decided Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church was the “one.” They became members under the leadership of Reverend Fred W. Johnson. “Henry” became very active while at Sandy Grove doing whatever was required of him; inclusive of operating the Video~Audio, Transportation {Van Driver} Pastors Aide, Boy Scout Master Troop #159 and making small repairs when needed. Additionally, he served as Vice~President of the Trustee Board where he was very active until his health began to fail. His Christian experience included taking classes at The Progressive National Baptist Convention. He also was a free~lance photographer. {You would always see him with his camera willing and ready to take pictures at all activities.} “Henry” was awarded the NAACP Volunteer of the Year in 2005, District Award of Merit for Boy Scout Troop #159, The American Red Cross Volunteer, Board of Directors, HOA, Savannah Building, Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club. He also received a Certificate of Completion, USPS Boating Course, Long Bay Squadron. “Henry” was a man of professionalism regardless as to what he did; it was done with organizational skills and he demanded perfection. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Deloris Craig; two {2} daughters, Brenda Johnson of Brooklyn, NY and Rosalyn Heywood of Queens, NY; one {1} son~in~law, Richard Heywood of Queens, NY; a special adopted daughter, Brenda McCray of Myrtle Beach, SC; one {1} grandson, Jermaine A. Cooper and {1} great~grandson, Carter Jermaine Cooper of Snellville, GA; one {1} sister, Maelee Craig of Lancaster, SC; two {2} brothers, Hazel E. Craig of Pageland, SC and James L. Craig of Lancaster, SC; three {3} sisters~in~law, Thelma Humphrey of Brooklyn, NY, Janice Mooring of Easton, PA and Doreen Taylor of NYC; two {2} brothers~in~law, Elliott Mooring of Easton, PA and Barry Mooring, NYC; two {2} aunts, Lottie Massey of Waxhaw, NC and Eartha E. McCain of Winston Salem, NC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special friends, Cleveland Britton, Vernell and Bernice Alston, Harry and Harriett Ross, Betty Chestnut, Lawrence and Mary Knox, and Barbara Jean Pitts. “Henry” touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity and trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He will be missed by all who loved him and he will never be forgotten. Visitation will be held 6:00 ~ 8:00 PM Friday, August 19, 2016 at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LLC.
