MRS. PATRICIA HEMINGWAY, {62} “AKA PAT” was born on September 30th, 1954 to Harold and Connie Hemingway in Harlem, NY. Patricia passed away November 21st, 2016 at her residence Bronx, NY. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Hemingway, her mother, Connie {Chestnut} Hemingway and her brother, Joseph Hemingway. She will be missed, but surely not forgotten. Patricia was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Throughout her childhood, she would spend summers in Myrtle Beach, SC with her aunts and cousins often reminiscing about fond memories of being in the south. She attended Lewis D. Brandeis High School NYC. In 1972, Patricia became pregnant and withdrew from school in order to be a dedicated mother. However, she was determined and destined to excel. After giving birth to her only son, whom she loved dearly, Patricia earned her GED and seized various employment opportunities. In 1987, Patricia took a job with the NY State Department of Motor Vehicle as a Customer Service Representative until 2009 when she retired. Her interests included spending time with her grandchildren, making arts, crafts, shopping  and going on trips with her friends. Patricia was a dedicated grandmother who doted on her grandchildren. Whether it was a birthday party, or a graduation, no matter the occasion she was there. She would often bring them to her job to show them off to her friends or take them shopping with her. She always had one {1} or two {2} of her grandchildren by her side and enjoyed spending the holidays with them and their extended families. She would gather craft supplies and candy throughout the year and make baskets not just for Easter, but all year long she would make baskets of candy and trinkets for her grandchildren and often brought them “goodies” as she called it; that she found while shopping  her bargains. Patricia loved her grandchildren as if they were her own and provided for them. Whether  the offering was abundant or small, she made the sacrifice for her grandchildren. From 2012 until 2014, Patricia took on the task of raising her grandsons, Germaine and Jerimiah without giving it a second thought. She was a steadfast warrior in her decision to step up and care for her grandsons because of the love she had for her son and his children. Although Patricia had grown increasingly ill, during that time, she never wavered on her decision and she never complained about the task at hand. She stayed focused and made it to the finish line, handing the baton over to her son in 2014. She was a sociable person and often attended bus trips to Atlantic City, NJ with her co~workers as well as parties and other social gatherings; building fond memories and lasting friendships along the way. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Germaine Ruffin; her sister, Faye {Roger} Ludley; her brothers, Harold Hemingway, Jr. of New York, Gary {Kimberly} Hemingway of Virginia, Willie {Sandra} Corbitt of Illinois, Dominic {Rochelle} Hemingway of Virginia and Elizabeth H. Bowens; five {5} grandchildren, Imani Shania Ruffin, Dovante Brown, Gina Ruffin, Germaine Ruffin, II and Jeremiah Riffin and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
