MRS. DEROTHA CHARITY HEMINGWAY JONES, {94} daughter of the late Joseph Thompson and Charity Brockington- Hemingway, was born February 29, 1924 in Bucksville, SC. She was called to eternal rest Saturday, June 9, 2018.

Derotha grew up in Georgetown, SC and attended the public schools, graduating from Howard High School in 1944. Following high school she matriculated in Cosmetology School in Baltimore, Maryland.

On September 19, 1947, she united into holy matrimony to George H. Jones, Sr., of Conway, SC. He was her soulmate for seventy {70} years and preceded her in death. To this union four {4} children were born.

Throughout her life she was a member of the AME Church and remained a dedicated member for over fifty {50} years to Bethel AME Church in Conway, SC until her demise. Her church affiliations included being a stewardess, choir member, and missionary. Other affiliations included being a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Garden Club.

Her career consisted of being a cosmetologist in which she loved and wanted everyone to look their best. She was also a retired employee of Woodland Park Elementary School, Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, Myrtle Beach, SC.

Derotha, affectionately called “Rot”, loved to wear hats and look her best where ever she went. She had a warm personality that embodied humbleness and compassion to everyone who came into contact with her. She adored her family and was a loving person who would share advice and give to anyone in need.

She leaves to cherish fond memories four {4} children, Inza J. Pressley of Austell, GA; George {Evonne} “Skeet” Jones, Jr., of Buford, GA.; Pamela L. Jones of Conway, SC; Arthur {Rhonda} Jones, of Washington, DC; one {1} stepson Wilbur {Frances} Bellamy of Conway, SC; one {1} brother, George {Muriel} Hemingway of High Point, NC; seven {7} grandchildren; seven {7} great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, June 16,  2018 at Ocean View Funeral Homes Conway Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Bethel AME Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Homes Conway Chapel.
