MR. WENDEL SPIVEY, {54} On the morning of February 26, 2018 the Death Angel came and took from our midst Brother Wendell Earl Spivey, very well known as “Pooh Bear” or “Pooh”. The son of the late Roosevelt Spivey Sr. and Carrie Spivey, was born May 20, 1963.

He was a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School the class of 1982. He recently was employed at the Caribbean Hotel as a bellman and have worked throughout his career at Sea Captain’s House, Chesterfield Inn, Landmark Resort and Island Vista Resort formerly known as Sea Island Inn. His charisma and salesmanship led him to be an exceptional professional service worker in establishments ranging from casual cafes to fine-dining restaurants.

Pooh had a distinctive “swag” to him that was welcoming and embracing and captured the room as soon as he entered. He was a social butterfly that had a love for all he encountered and love reciprocated equally. In his early years he was a part of a brotherhood called the Civitans a community outreach group and was also a performer of the dance group “Sophisticated Gentlemen”.

He gave his life to Christ as a young boy and was a member of the youth choir and usher board at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish a special friend, Carole Lewis; one {1} daughter, Layla Spivey of Myrtle Beach, SC; six {6} sisters, Thelma Williams, Gail Bigelow both of Myrtle Beach, SC, Carin Chestnut {Joseph} of Durham, NC, Barbara Spivey of Fairburn, GA, Orvella Estwick, Sandra Spivey both of Bronx, NY;  one {1} brother, Gene {Myra} Spivey of Richmond, VA; one {1} sister-in-law,  Beulah Bland of Myrtle Beach, SC; five {5} aunts, Mazie {Jerome} Anderson, Alberta Ward, Eleanora Gore, Zelan Gore and Emma Gore; one {1} great-aunt, Amanda Grissett of Myrtle Beach, SC. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends whom loved him dearly. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal” You are missed “Pooh.”

Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, March 02, 2018 at Ocean View Funeral Home Myrtle Beach Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 03, 2018 at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home Myrtle Beach Chapel.
