MR. JAMES RICKY ELLIS, {60} affectionately known as “Ricky” was born, the youngest of five {5} children on September 06, 1955 in Myrtle Beach, SC to the late Joseph Ellis and Mary Francis Grove Ellis. Christianity was instilled in him at a young age by his eldest brother, Wesley Ellis {Sonny Kid} and this instruction led to his ongoing, lifelong study of the Bible. From his developmental years to his early adulthood, Ricky demonstrated a remarkable ability to articulate and expound on a wide range of issues. “Rick Man” was well known for his musical talent and ability leading to the formation of a musical group called “New Creations.” In this group, he was a lead singer remembered to this day for his Earth, Wind, & Fire and Stevie Wonder renditions. Mr. Ellis was educated in the Horry County School System graduating from Myrtle Beach High School in 1973. He exceled in school with a passion for reading, debate, and logic as was evident in his mastery of the English language. Following High School, he attended South Carolina State University and then joined the United States Air Force where he with excellence served his country proudly, in keeping with his family tradition. His tours included service in: Marquette, MI; Stuggart, Germany; and various other places informing his sensibilities and keen ability to communicate with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. To know him was to love him as he always had something witty, positive, and uplifting to say. Ricky Ellis lived most of his post military life with his loving companion Wanda Williams with which he had one {1} son, Cortland. He was previously wedded to Priscilla Young of Myrtle Beach, SC and from that union, his first son, Dominique, was born. We all — family, friends, and the community — knew Ricky to be an outgoing, kind-hearted, rhetorical genius. However, in the last decade of his life, he was tested by life’s circumstances and prolonged illnesses leading up to his death. James Ricky Ellis departed this life on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at McLeod Seacoast Hospital in Little River, SC. He leaves to cherish loving memories: his companion of many years, Wanda Williams of Little River, SC; Dominique Ellis of Charleston, SC; Courtland Williams of Little River, SC; two {2} step-children, James Ellis, and Corey Williams. He also leaves to mourn his elder sister Shirley Wallace of Myrtle Beach, SC; three {3} brothers, Wesley {Maxine} Ellis of Augusta, GA, Joseph {Sally} Ellis of Columbus, GA, Otis Ellis of Myrtle Beach, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. Visitation will be held 6:00 ~ 8:00 PM Friday, July 15, 2016 at Ocean View Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Services LLC.
