MRS. ETHEL MAE OWENS-WARD, {81} died peacefully surrounded by her family at Kingston Nursing Center in Conway, SC on Oct 09, 2018 following an extended illness. She was born on April 03, 1937 in Horry County, SC. Ethel was the second child of fifteen {15} born to the union of the late Mr. Daniel Owens and Mrs. Annie Lee McCray-Owens. She attended the Horry County Public Schools. At an early age she became a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church and joined the church choir. Because of her extended illness, she could not attend church regularly but always remained a member until her demise.

In 1953, she married the late Mr. Eugene Ward Sr. She was a housewife and worked in the hospitality industry for many years. Her faith in God showed through everything she did. Including cooking up a good meal for her family, a talent God wonderfully blessed her with. She absolutely loved flowers of all kind and took pleasure in keeping a beautiful garden. Although her children suffered a little when it came to weeding the flower beds, the precious moments and conversations we shared with her about life’s lessons made us who we are today. She was a compassionate and caring woman. We will never forget her strength, laughter and support throughout our lives. Mom was our ROCK.

Her kind and gentle spirit always showed the love and devotion she had for her family. Out of fifteen {15} siblings, five {5} preceded her in death. Arnie Owens, Connell Owens, Larry Owens, Gene Owens, Daniel Owens Jr., and Dorothy Owens Carr. Eight {8} sister-in-laws and nine {9} brother-in-laws also preceded her in death. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her three {3} children Daisy Mae Ward, Eugene “Shorty” Ward Jr. {Kim} and Maxine “Pam” Cooper all of Conway, SC. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter to be carried on by her nine {9} grandchildren, Erica Ward, Katrina Ward Phillips {Devrick}, Toni Marks, Brittney McCray, Ayana Ward, Kyai Ward, Maurice Livingston, and Chyna Walker; four {4} great- grandchildren, Dajah Ward, Nyjah Asbury, Bella Phillips and DJ Phillips. She loved and cherished her siblings, Marie Eaddy, Minister Flora Anderson, Sarah Spain, Jenny Owens all of Conway SC, Minnie Anderson of Bronx, NY, Fannie McCoy of Rochester, NY, John Henry Owens of Rochester, NY and Benjamin Owens of Conway, SC; two {2} sister-in laws, Minnie Owens and Rose Marie Ward. A multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Jerusalem Chapel Missionary  Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, October 12, 2018 at Ocean View Funeral Home Conway Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home Conway Chapel.



  • To Eugene, my little brother l pray that Jesus gives you the strength to with stand this storm and the wisdom to know tbat He does not make a mistake. Our mothers are a precious gift to us and we should love them every day and sho them love every day so when they are no longer with us we have such sweet memories to keep in our heart and we want have to every say wby didnt l do this or that when they’re gone. Love you always, may God give you His Grace and Mercy to continue your walk daily.
